When thinking of the Emerald Isle, perhaps Guinness, rich green expanses and general craic is what comes to mind first. But one of the most unexpected natural beauties of this country is her beaches. Ireland boasts spectacular beaches on all sides of the country. It would be a shame not to go see some of these during your visit to Ireland for some fun and relaxation, or even for some stunning wedding photos!

 

Dog’s Bay and Gurteen Bay, Connemara, Co. Galway 

These two back to back bays boast some of the nicest beaches in Ireland. They’re two miles from Roundstone, Co. Galway, along the Atlantic Coast. These beautiful beaches are considered safe for swimming and other water activities. The  crystal clear waters here are lovely and calm away from currents, ideal for taking a dip.

 

Derrynane Beach, Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry 

This beach is located on the Ring of Kerry, just two miles from the village Caherdaniel. Derrynane Beach is beautiful with a sandy shore and sheltered from strong currents and winds. The beach has a natural harbour and is a mere walks away from the Derrynane House. This beach is a must visit on your break in Ireland. 

 

Trá na Doilín, Co. Galway 

This spectacular beach has clear waters and white sands, it looks like something from a movie. It is equipped with changing rooms and toilets and is very popular for swimming and snorkelling. The beach is lifeguarded and has received the International Blue Flag award for 2018. It’s perfect for a little adventure.

 

Inchydoney Beach, Clonakilty, Co. Cork 

Inchydoney is easily accessible by car and has excellent surfing conditions for beginners. This beach was awarded its Blue Flag award in 2018 and is lifeguarded during the summer. This beach is perfect for water activities and adventures.  Its soft sands are perfect for a walk hand in hand. 

 

Barleycove Beach, Schull, Co. Cork 

This whole area is a Special Area of Conservation under the European Habitats Directive. This beach has stunning scenery and was awarded the International Blue Flag award on 2018. It is also lifeguarded on the weekends and during the summer so it’s perfect for those of you looking for a swim if you’re brave enough for the chilly Irish waters.
